Seven Easy Blank Wall Solutions is a collaboration between Dina Danish and New Europeans Freja Kir and Stefan Auberg currently on show along the wall. To celebrate it’s presence at the wall and in the spirit of the work we asked Dina seven easy questions about the work and its context…
How do you think passers by will react to the seven easy blank wall solutions?
That’s a difficult question. As a rule, I always try not to think too much about how an audience would react, as it’s a never ending question. There are never ending possibilities to this. But taking some passer-byers feedback into consideration, most people seem to pick one or two of their favourite ones.
Do you think people engage better with lists compared to more long-form writing?
I can speak of myself here. So, it depends. If I’m looking up something online, then lists, visually, have a great break to paragraphs. They act like ways of summing up all the text on your screen. However, the danger to this is that the title of the list may be misleading and not representational to the paragraph that would follow.
What do the solutions have to do with Europe?
That’s up to the viewer to interpret. But to me, they have more to do with the wall, the physical and mental one, that we have between the meetings that are occurring there right now.
How do the blank wall solutions fit into your previous work?
Now again, that’s not an easy question. I thought these were supposed to be easy questions.
What is your favourite blank wall solution?
Now that’s easy: I like the plywood and fake plants best.
How have you decorated your walls at home?
With tax files, books, and with art works by friends of mine.
Have you got any extra solutions for how we New Europeans can transform the wall?
I’d suggest turning the whole wall into one very large mirror and doing guided bike tours all along it.
